Mompreneurs: How to Achieve a Good Night Sleep to Increase Productivity
Want to get up every day feeling refreshed and ready to make a difference in your business and your life? You can. The secret is getting a good night’s sleep. Here’s how to ensure you sleep like a baby, so you can wake up feeling like a supermom.
Wake Up at the Same Time Every Day
Studies have shown that the most effective way to make sure you fall asleep at a certain time every day is to wake up at the same time every day.
Your body will naturally calibrate what time it needs to go to bed, based on what time it woke up over the last few days.
In other words, if you wake up at 7am every day and you need eight hours of sleep, your body will naturally release melatonin, the sleep chemical at around 10:30 to help you go to sleep.
Make sure when you’re about to go to sleep that all the lights are out and you’re as close to complete darkness as possible. Turn off any computer screens or lights in the hallway. This helps your body realize it’s night-time.
How Exercise Improves Sleep
Exercise works wonders on the chemistry of the brain. One reason people sometimes have difficulty sleeping is because their brain isn’t releasing the proper “sleep chemicals.”
One way to remedy this is exercise. By expending energy, getting the heart rate up, removing toxins and getting more blood to the brain, your body will naturally start to rebalance itself.
Try it. All you need is twenty minutes of cardiovascular exercise, four days a week. Try it for two weeks to see if it improves your sleep.
Delegate Babysitting Responsibility
Talk to your partner about babysitting. Get on the same page about you needing to have a good night’s sleep so you can be productive in your business.
Develop a system that works for both of you. Perhaps you’ll do the babysitting at night and he’ll do the babysitting in the morning. Or the other way around.
Alternatively, you can take turns, with you being responsible for one night and him the next.
As your kids get older, this becomes less of an issue. But if you have babies or toddlers, the sharing of responsibilities is a big deal.
The most important thing is to make sure you don’t both get up every time the baby cries. That drains sleep and energy from the both of you. Instead, work out a system that’ll allow both of you to get regular rest.
Getting a good night’s sleep is crucial to productivity. Help your body fall asleep by waking up the same time every day, even if it’s on weekends. Experiment with exercise to see if it helps you fall asleep. Finally, work out a night and morning babysitting agreement that works for both you and your partner.
